National recognition
IUBAT operates under the Private University Act and its curricula are approved by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, which reports to the Ministry of Education.

Memberships
IUBAT is a full member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. It also takes part in UN Academic Impact and the UN Global Compact, RCE Greater Dhaka, the Asia Pacific Quality Network, the Association of SAARC Universities, AMDISA, the International Association of Universities, the International Association of University Presidents, and the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh. The College of Business Administration is a member of GMAC.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027, published on 30 September 2026, rank IUBAT in the 1001–1200 band and joint second among Bangladeshi universities, among 2,297 universities from 118 countries.
