Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)
The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell was set up in 2015 as a sub-project of the World Bank-funded Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP). It reviews courses, teaching and results every year, supports each department in outcome-based education, and prepares programmes for independent accreditation.
The cell publishes its work on its own website at iqac.iubat.edu.
Independent accreditation
The BBA is accredited by ACBSP (USA), the BSc in Agriculture by Krishibid Institution Bangladesh, and the four engineering programmes by BAETE of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh. Details are on the accreditation and rankings page.
How students are assessed
Marks come from work across the whole semester rather than a single examination. Every teacher publishes the weights in the course outline at the start of the course. The guideline weights are:
| Component | Weight |
|---|---|
| First-term examination | 20% |
| Mid-term examination | 20% |
| Quizzes (at least ten, announced and unannounced) | 5% |
| Attendance | 5% |
| Assignments, term papers, projects or presentations (at least one) | 15% |
| Final examination | 35% |
| Total | 100% |
There are three compulsory examinations in every course each semester. Every hour in class is expected to be supported by at least three hours of private study. See examinations and assessment.
Grievances and complaints
Students and staff can file complaints with the Registrar. Procedures are in the grievance redress policy.
